"Le Temps de L'Amour"

Video: Sarah Nixey (of Black Box Recorder): "Le Temps de L'Amour"

Sarah Nixey of Black Box Recorder may be British, but she has a voice that's perfectly suited to pulling vintage French pop into the 21st Century. This song was originally recorded in 1962 by ye-ye icon Francoise Hardy, and was written by Jacques DuTronc, who Hardy would marry two decades later. Nixey's version replaces the extremely basic guitar/ass/drums arrangement of the original with dive-bombing synth bass and a piercing keyboard hook. Nixey, high on a mountaintop communing with a bunch of guys on hang-gliders in the video, captures the mannered refinement that made hardy such an indelible performer and adds just a hint of post-Mod cool.
