British Festivals Explore Sound of Silence

T in the Park, the enormous two-day summer throwdown in Balado, Scotland, will take place on July 9 and 10 this year and features just about everyone you can feasibly think of, including, but not limited to, Bright Eyes, Snoop Dogg, the Futureheads, New Order, Foo Fighters, the Go! Team, Rilo Kiley, Green Day, LCD Soundsystem, Suzanne Vega, Death in Vegas, Eagles of Death Metal, the Faint, and a hand-cramping list of others. And with that many acts making people party that hard over such a short time, there has to be a way to get around The Man's pesky noise ordinance, hasn't there?

If it were up to us, of course, The Man would shove it, but the clever folks behind T in the Park and next week's equally enormous Glastonbury Festival have thought of a better way. Both fests, according to a report on NME.com, will be distributing headphones to all the gum-chewing, water-guzzling kiddies for a "silent disco" after hours, so the partying can go on all night long. Two channels will be available at T in the Park: one hooked up to DJs spinning live, and the other playing a radio-esque mix of dance music.

Nobody has thought of how the little old ladies in neighboring towns will take to the constant screams of "WHAT'S THAT YOU SAID?" between sweating dancers at all hours of the night, but it's got to be better than the bass on their frail eardrums. Take one for the team, ladies.

Meanwhile, please, someone send video of silent dancers. Air guitar preferred.
