It's a shame Superchunk don't come around more often. But the North
Carolinian indie mainstays made the trek up to Chicago on Wednesday night to play the Metro with their fellow Tar Heel
John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats (and locals the Ponys). The occasion was a benefit show for cancer research in memory of recently-passed Superchunk fan Sean
Silver. Sticking close to tunes from their last three albums, the Mountain Goats played to a rapt floor and a disinterested balcony, with a jovial John Darnielle doing his best to keep the tunes at the forefront of attendees' minds. People might've been talking during Superchunk, but one wonders how; Mac McCaughan's stuttering guitar and the band's crushing cadences filled any space the hordes of 35-year-old Dockers-donning moshers didn't.
