Low Examined in Documentary

Low Examined in Documentary Photo by Tim Soter

Whether because of their humble Midwestern roots, the slow pace of much of their music, or any number of other reasons, Low have never been your typical rock stars. Even more so than the average indie band, they spotlight music over personality. Nonetheless, 15 years of bandhood have given Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker an interesting perspective on the world, and they'll share that perspective in a forthcoming documentary called You May Need a Murderer.

Directed by Dutch documentarian David Kleijwegt, You May Need a Murderer shows Sparhawk and Parker "in their natural habitats-- on tour, at home in Duluth, MN, in their church community, and as parents," according to a press release. Kleijwegt's crew filmed the two for almost a month in 2007. The result seems to be a sort of meditation on life itself, or, as the press release calls it, "an intriguing tale-- about religion, violence, questions of conscience, and madness-- that could also double as a touching love story."

You May Need a Murderer
comes out on DVD June 3.
